The social networking platform X, once known as Twitter, has made its chatbot, Grok, free for all of its users.
Designed by Elon Musk’s AI company XAI, Grok AI is a ChatGPT competitor on X. Lately, Grok AI Chatbot was solely offered to its premium users or subscribers who have made payment for this service, but over the weekend, a free version is becoming accessible in certain regions observed by researchers and enthusiastic users, making a significant increase in its accessibility.
Moreover, free users situated in New Zealand are able to access the Grok chatbot now, as this has been confirmed by TechCrunch.
But with this free version, users also face usage limitations, according to researcher Swak. Every two hours, users are only allowed to ask 10 questions with the Grok-2 model and 20 questions with the smaller Grok-2 mini model. Three image requests have been granted to the users per day.
To gain free access to Grok, users are required to maintain accounts that are at least seven days old, and their accounts are linked with their phone numbers.
Advancement in Grok AI Chatbot Models
As Grok-2 was launched in August, it has shown image generation capacity, which is powered by Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 model, and with the help of recent updates, it allows us to interpret the images as well. However, these features are only available and accessible to premium and premium+ subscribers until now. XAI aims to make it more accessible, extending its user base and collecting more feedback from the users to improve Grok’s performance and make it able to compete with renowned AI models, i.e., Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT.
